Columbia residents gather, discuss community concerns

Sixth Ward City Councilmember Barbara Hoppe left Tuesday night’s Neighborhood Congress meeting with a to-do list.

Hoppe said residents talked with her about a range of community concerns, from homeless shelters to fire hydrants and trash bins.

“It’s the one time you have access to all the council members (or most of them), and the mayor, all in one place," Hoppe said. "So, you can talk to five or six people in just one hour."

Missouri attorney general candidate Ed Martin recently joined us in studio for a conversation with KBIA’s Janet Saidi. Martin is the Republican nominee challenging current state Attorney General Chris Koster, the Democrat incumbent. The job description, as described by the Associated Press, includes: defending the state’s laws and policies in court, assisting county prosecutors, investigating consumer fraud cases and looking into violations of the state’s open meetings and records laws.

Holts Summit voters to decide on renewing 20-year-old sales tax

Holts Summit voters will decide on Nov. 6 whether to renew a 20-year-old sales tax. The .05 percent sales tax is earmarked for capital improvements and if renewed, would continue until 2033.

Holts Summit City Administrator Brian Crane said the city primarily used the original sales tax revenue to build a new sewage system. He said the renewal would expand upon necessary improvements to city infrastructure.
