Dropout deadline passes, and Akin's still in

Republican congressman Todd Akin has made good on his promise to stay in the Missouri Senate race against Democratic incumbent Claire McCaskill.

Tuesday's final deadline for Missouri candidates to remove their names from the ballot came and went at 5 p.m. as Akin continued a bus tour across the state. It's a final confirmation that he's resisting calls from within his own party to drop his bid.

McCaskill reaffirms support for federal healthcare law

U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill is breaking her silence on the Supreme Court’s health care ruling.  The Democrat told supporters Thursday at a party campaign office in St. Charles that she stands firm in her support of President Obama’s Affordable Care Act.  She also says the solutions for fixing health care offered by her Republican opponents would be burden seniors.

Supporters of USPS rally in Columbia

About 20 supporters of the post office rallied in downtown Columbia Thursday.  Gathering outside Senator Claire McCaskill's office, supporters held banners and flyers opposing Senate bill 1789, which would cut funding to the U.S. Postal Service. They say a cut from 6 days to 5 days in service will slow down many deliveries. Eale Breedlove, a 30 year veteran of the postal service, says it could also put many veterans out of a job.
