A $7.5 million bond issue passed in Tuesday’s election will be used to renovate and upgrade facilities in the Southern Boone County School District.

Southern Boone County School District will be renovating their schools if a bond issue is passed on Tuesday. If the bond is approved, the school will be given $7.5 million to upgrade their facilities. The district’s debt tax levy is estimated to increase by 15 cents per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation of real and personal property.

Incumbents Barrett Glascock and Ellen Kesterson were reelected to the school board for the Southern Boone County District on Tuesday. Only two of the seven school board positions were up for election.

New school lunch requirements create waste, hungry kids

The Southern Boone School District placed Superintendent Charlotte Miller on a professional improvement plan.

Earlier this summer, former Assistant Superintendent Carolyn Deffenbaugh released a letter of resignation – in it she slammed Miller, accusing her of favoritism, careless spending and mismanagement.

School Board President Ellen Kesterson says a committee of board members will meet with Miller every month to follow up with the goals outlined in the plan.

Soldier surprises kids with early return

One mid-Missouri soldier has returned home early from his deployment to Afghanistan. Yesterday, Sergeant Major Mike Lederle attended a flag presentation assembly at Southern Boone High School. But the soldier’s presence was a surprise for  his 9th and 11th graders who attended the assembly.

The moment was seconds away, but Sergeant Major Lederle was ready for battle. His boots were tied, his gear was perfectly rolled and tucked in, and his posture was stoic. But this time, it wasn’t an enemy he was confronting, it was anticipation.

A school district official says Southern Boone Middle School Principal Bob Simpson released a letter of immediate resignation this morning. The move comes after Simpson was placed on paid administrative leave Thursday morning.

Southern Boone County School District is preparing to investigate a long list of accusations of administrative deficiencies.
